PRO-NIR anti-criminality drive yields major gains

A year after its activation, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region reported substantial results in multiple campaigns targeting criminality in all its forms, arresting 9,577 persons involved in various crimes.

The campaign against wanted persons led to the arrest of 3,841 fugitives, of which 693 were listed as most wanted persons, PRO-NIR report said.

In the conduct of 2,281 anti-drug operations, the PRO-NIR reported to have arrested 2,708 drug suspects.

Confiscated were 44.9 kilos grams of shabu with drug price of P305.983 million and 12.9 kilos of marijuana valued at P1.559 million.

It also reported the arrest of 1,912 persons involved in illegal gambling operations, and the confiscation of P 324,012.55 worth of bet money.

In the same period, the PRO-NIR recovered 1,601 loose firearms and arrested 374 violators while 657 individuals were also nabbed for illegal fishing.

About P22.3 million worth of smuggled items were also seized by the police, with 85 violators apprehended.

In a statement, PRO-NIR Director PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay attributed the region’s achievements to intelligence-driven operations, and community-focused approach to law enforcement.

“Over the past year, the PRO-NIR personnel have demonstrated extraordinary courage, discipline, and resolve in safeguarding our communities, apprehending wanted persons, dismantling criminal syndicates, and enforcing the law with unwavering integrity,” Ibay said. | GB
