Founded in 1901, Silliman University is the first Protestant institution of higher education in the Philippines and Asia. A comprehensive, full-opportunity university serving approximately 10,000 students, Silliman is deeply committed to academic excellence, Christian values, shared governance, academic freedom, and service to society.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the President serves as the University’s chief executive officer and chief academic leader. The President provides visionary, faith-centered, and strategic leadership; advances student learning, faculty excellence, and research; stewards the University’s financial, physical, and technological resources; and strengthens partnerships with alumni, church, government, industry, and community stakeholders at the local, national, and global levels.

The next President is expected to:

  • Articulate and lead a clear, inclusive, and mission-driven vision for Silliman’s future, responsive to changing educational, social, technological, and economic contexts;
  • Uphold shared governance, academic freedom, and respectful labor relations, fostering trust, collaboration, and institutional integrity across the University community;
  • Ensure financial sustainability, including stewardship of an enrollment-driven budget, sound fiscal management, and the advancement of fundraising, endowment, and philanthropic partnerships;
  • Promote academic quality, research, student development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral to institutional excellence and Christian witness;
  • Lead campus development, infrastructure renewal, and the strategic and ethical use of technology to support teaching, learning, research, and administration;
  • Serve as a visible, credible, and effective advocate for Silliman University and for higher education in national, church, and international forums.

Candidates must possess:

  • An earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution;
  • Senior executive leadership experience in higher education or a comparably complex organization;
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, institutional leadership, financial management, and resource development;
  • A strong record of collaborative leadership, consensus-building, and organizational stewardship;
  • A clear commitment to academic freedom, diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence;
  • A personal commitment to the Christian faith, with leadership reflective of Christian values and servant leadership.

The Board of Trustees has constituted a search committee to lead the process of electing the next University President. The committee will evaluate candidates based on demonstrated leadership in mission-centered governance, academic and quality excellence, financial stewardship, organizational leadership, external relations, innovation, and global engagement.

The search will be conducted in a manner that is public, transparent, inclusive, and consistent with best practices in higher education. Guided by a competency-based and mission-aligned framework, the process will incorporate structured stakeholder engagement, rigorous evaluation, and appropriate confidentiality safeguards to ensure fairness and attract highly qualified candidates.

Nominations and applications should be submitted electronically and should include a letter of interest or nomination, curriculum vitae, and three professional references. Submissions should be sent to sillimansearchcommittee@gmail.com on or before 5:00 p.m. of 15 May 2026. Inquiries may also be sent to the said email address.
