Multiple ash emissions from Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Island were again recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) yesterday.

In the morning, a total of five ash emission events generated grayish plumes that rose from 200 to 750 meters above the summit crater before drifting southwest as recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory.

Light ashfall was reported anew in La Castellana town and La Carlota City in Negros Occidental.

In its bulletin on Sunday, Phivolcs reported a total of 14 ash emission events in the past 24 hours that ranged from two to 65 minutes long and 35 volcano earthquakes, including 11 volcanic tremors lasting from four to 38 minutes.

On Saturday, affected by ashfall, which was triggered by series of ash emission events, were barangays of Mansalanao, Camandag, Sag-ang and Robles in La Castellana, and Yubo in La Carlota City, the Office of Civil Defense said, citing the reports of Phivolcs.

Also on the same day, Mt. Kanlaon released 2,413 tons of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere.

Ground deformation was also noted on the volcano.

Alert Level 3 remains hoisted over Mt. Kanlaon, with the six-kilometer radius off limits to the public. | GB
