Phivolcs logged 12 quakes at Mt. Kanlaon

Twelve volcanic earthquakes have been recorded at Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Island since Saturday midnight (Aug. 31), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Sept. 1 bulletin showed.

From Saturday to Sunday, Mt. Kanlaon also emitted a 200-meter tall plume which drifted southwest.

The volcano also generated 2,669 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux on Sunday.

On Aug. 25, Mt. Kanlaon recorded the second highest gas emission from its crater of 7,172 tonnes.

The volcano remains at Alert Level 2 due to an “increased unrest”, following its explosive eruption on June 3.

Its edifice also remained inflated.  | GB
