President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to visit La Carlota City today to assess the situation of residents affected by the recent eruption of Mt. Kanlaon, said Mayor Rex Jalandoon.
Jalandoon said that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has confirmed that 500 households are expected to receive assistance from the President.
The recent volcanic eruption and ash emissions have impacted approximately 1,200 residents from the upper barangays of La Carlota.
Along with President Marcos, re-electionist Senator Imee Marcos and Representative Juliet Marie Ferrer (4th district, Negros Occidental) will also be present to distribute Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) to 1,000 residents from La Carlota and Bago. Each beneficiary will receive P1,500.
Prior to the President’s arrival, DSWD Field Office 6 conducted inspections of the evacuation centers in La Carlota to ensure the welfare of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the availability of essential facilities, such as communal kitchens and washrooms.
They also collaborated with City Social Welfare and Development Officers from Bago and La Carlota to address concerns related to ash fall, the increasing number of IDPs, and the need for additional aid.
Additionally, President Marcos is scheduled to endorse the administration’s 12 senatorial candidates from the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas party during a grand rally at 6 p.m. today at the Victorias City Coliseum.
The Victorias City government has advised motorists and commuters to expect heavy traffic around the coliseum from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and announced strict security measures, including a ban on weapons, sharp objects, flammable, and hazardous items. | GB
