P7.43M city aid for Bacolod delegation in WVRAA Meet

The Bacolod City government allotted P7.43 million in financial assistance to athletes, coaching staff, and local DepEd personnel participating in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet, hosted by Negros Occidental, from May 2-7.

This as WVRAA delegates from various provinces in the region started arriving in Bacolod City April 30 in preparation for the weeklong games that will be played in various venues.

These include the Panaad Park and Stadium, Bacolod Taytung High School, University of St. La Salle, Bacolod City National High School, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, SM City Bacolod for billiards, 888 Premier Mall for wrestling and wushu, and at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central for table tennis.

Meanwhile, futsal, swimming, and pencak silat will be played at various venues in Talisay City, dancesport at the Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center in Silay, elementary and secondary tennis at the San Carlos City tennis courts, and boxing in Murcia, the WVRAA organizer posted.

A solidarity meeting was also held April 30 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, also in preparation for the Regional Meet. It was attended by Department of Education regional officials, division education leaders, technical and non-officiating officials, coaches and assistant coaches, and chaperones.

Mayor Alfredo Benitez also met with athletes and DepEd officials and coaches April 29 at the Bacolod Government Center lobby, to thank them for their performance in the Palarong Panlalawigan last month, and to exhort them to do their best in the Regional Meet.
