The provincial government of Negros Occidental has earmarked P33 million from its Quick Respond Fund to put up community kitchens for families affected by the latest eruption of Mt. Kanlaon, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II said on Wednesday (Dec. 18).

Diaz said that the community kitchens will be fully equipped, with cooking areas to be manned by trained personnel from the province’s Technology and Livelihood Development Center.

He added that the kitchen aims to feed about 10,000 evacuees.

“We also included food for personnel that will be part of the camp management along with those in security and drivers,” he added.

Diaz said that they are also allocating funds for the equipment and fuel used by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service in Bago City, La Carlota City, La Castellana and Moises Padilla.

A portion of the budget will also be used to purchase raw materials for the community kitchens and allowances for the personnel manning the 18 evacuation sites, he added. | GB
