Residents of several communities in southern Negros Occidental now have conducive areas for various activities with several multi-purpose buildings completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways, including the P10 million People’s Hall in Ilog town.
Implemented by the DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office, the new People’s Hall in Barangay 1, Ilog, is equipped with powerhouse and flood lights as well as rainwater collectors that would provide occupants with electricity and water during calamities and disasters, District Engineer Rodney Gustilo said.
The construction of the two-storey multi-purpose building also includes a stage for barangay activities, perimeter fence for security and safety, 3-phase generator set, LED high bay lighting, spilt-type air conditioning, and ramps for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and residents needing special attention.
The DPWH also constructed a covered gym in Barangay Linaon, Cauayan town, and another covered gym in Barangay Bulwangan in Hinoba-an.
“The covered gyms in barangays Bulwangan and Linaon, on the other hand, include basketball courts and wider spaces for academic, sports, cultural and other activities of schools,” Gustilo added.
The P5-million covered gym in Cauayan involved the construction of a 40-square meter multi-purpose building with an 8.5-square meter comfort room, benefitting residents and students of nearby Linaon Elementary School.
The P1.98-million multi-purpose building in Hinoba-an has structural columns, trusses, and pre-painted metal sheets, and can be used for public meetings, social services, and sports events.
DPWH6 OIC regional director Sanny Boy Oropel said in a statement that the structures will serve as centers for social, political, educational, and other activities of the communities.
“These buildings will also serve as temporary evacuation centers during calamities and emergencies, providing a safer, stronger, more comfortable, and well-ventilated shelter that would lessen the struggle of evacuees,” Oropel added. ||
