Two road improvement projects in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental have been completed and are seen to facilitate better transportation access up to the neighboring Negros Oriental, the Department of Public Works and Highways in Western Visayas said.
The widened stretch of the Kabankalan-Bais Road, specifically in Barangay Tagukon, worth P39.45 million, involved the construction of additional lane on both sides of the existing two-lane road, with total length of 1.568 lineal kilometers.
The project also included the construction of grouted riprap for slope protection and of metal guard rails, to deliver safer and more convenient transportation.
“The wider road increases traffic capacity, accommodating more vehicles passing along Kabankalan-Bais Road, hence decongesting traffic and ensuring shorter travel time from one place to another,” District Engineer Rodney Gustilo said in a statement over the weekend.
The P67.55-million paved road along the Kabankalan-Bayawan boundary road, specifically in Barangay Bantayan, expanded the road network and connected far-flung communities in Purok Mambaog to the barangay proper, the DPWH said.
It involved the concreting of the two-lane road with total length of 1.76 kilometers and width of 8.70 meters, as well as slope protection, lined canal, concrete barriers and grouted riprap, installation of solar LED lights, and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
DPWH6 regional director Sanny Boy Oropel said that these improved roads ensure a cost-efficient transport of goods and services, enhance local economic growth, and pave the way for an easier delivery of government services even to far-flung communities in Negros. ||
