The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Negros Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) said it has completed several road projects, aimed at improving travel experience and boosting economic activities, as well as school buildings, all worth about P106 million.

These included a road project, worth P29.3 million, along the stretch of the Hinigaran-Isabela Road in Hinigaran, which involved an asphalt overlay with corrections spanning 535 linear meters, and thickness of 50 millimeters.

It also includes 324 linear meters of paved shoulder, enhanced with anti-rutting additives and thermoplastic pavement markings, the DPWH said.

Another major project along the Hinigaran-Isabela Road involved the asphalt overlay of 1,876 linear meters with a 50-millimeter thickness, anti-rutting additives, and the installation of road safety devices, all in the amount of P57.8 million.

In Barangay Guintubhan, Isabela, a P9.6-million concreting project was also completed. It spans 500 linear meters and includes Portland cement concrete pavement with a width of 2.5 meters on both lanes, and thickness of 230 millimeters. The project also features shoulders, drainage systems, and slope protection in selected areas.

DPWH Region 6 director Sanny Boy Oropel emphasized the positive impact of these infrastructure developments on mobility and the local economy.

“These projects aim to improve road infrastructure in Negros Occidental,” Oropel said in a statement recently. “By ensuring smoother, safer roads, we are fostering economic growth and convenience for the people of the 5th District and the entire province.”

It also provides commuters a more comfortable and efficient travel experience, and significantly reduces travel time.

Additionally, the improved road facilitates the convenient delivery of essential goods and services to various areas within the 5th district and the province.

School buildings were also built in Binalbagan and Isabela to address the need for more classrooms to accommodate the increasing number of learners.

A one-storey, two-classroom building, worth P4.9 million, was completed at Doña Jesusa Arroyo Elementary School in Barangay Payao, Binalbagan. The 126-square-meter facility features DepEd-standard tables and chairs, proper lighting, good ventilation, and toilets that cater to personal needs, the DPWH NegOcc 2nd DEO said.

Another one-storey, two-classroom building, also worth P4.9-million, was constructed at Cansalongon Elementary School in Isabela, and likewise includes DepEd-standard furniture, suitable lighting, and toilets.

This will provide students and teachers with better and more convenient avenue towards academic excellence, the agency said.

“With facilities prioritizing comfort, safety, and functionality, we empower our students to be productive, and our teachers to excel in their craft,” Oropel stressed. ||
