The Department of Public Works and Highways said its district engineering offices (DEOs) in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental completed two projects, all worth P103.1 million.

The P12.1-million farm-to-market road (FMR) connecting Sitio Campuntong to Sitio Abud in Barangay Antonio, Himamaylan City, involved the concreting of 514 lineal meter road, complemented by shoulder and slope protection in selected areas, the DPWH in Western Visayas said Aug. 21.

This project of the DPWH Negros Occidental 2nd DEO will enhance accessibility and better transportation for farmers and residents, DPWH6 director Sanny Boy Oropel said in a statement, adding “the new concrete road will reduce travel time and ensure the safe and efficient transport of agricultural products, thereby boosting the local economy.”

The Bacolod DEO, meanwhile, said it completed a flood mitigation project, worth P91 million, to protect local communities from the frequent threat of flooding along Loygoy River in Barangay Granada.

The flood mitigation structure, funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act, will serve as a resilient barrier to prevent the overflow of the Loygoy River, which has been a persistent concern for residents in the area.

Oropel said the completion of this project marked a significant step forward in the city’s efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience.

Meanwhile, to foster greater participation in school events and activities of the students, faculty, and visitors of Central Philippines State University Cauayan Campus, the DPWH 3rd DEO said it completed a multi-purpose building that features state-of-the-art lighting fixtures, a serviceable stage, and corrugated long-span roofing that offers reliable protection against harsh weather conditions, including intense sunlight and heavy rainfall.

This facility will greatly support the educational and extracurricular activities of the campus, ensuring a more conducive environment for learning and engagement, the DPWH added. ||
