About P1.972 million worth of illegal drugs and a hand grenade were recovered by the police in separate operations in Bacolod City as they further intensified the anti-drug campaign amid the MassKara Festival celebration.

Personnel of Bacolod City Police Office Mobile Force Company intercepted alias “Anthony”, 35, while trying to escape from a checkpoint on San Juan St. Wednesday night.

The suspect was initially flagged for violation of traffic rules, and after he was cornered, policemen seized from his possession 220 grams of suspected shabu valued at P1.496 million, a hand grenade, bundle of cash amounting to P35,370, a black Mio motorcycle, among other items.

At Gonzaga Extension in Barangay Taculing, the apprehension of alias “Bebe” led to the recovery of about 70 grams of suspected shabu worth P476,000.

In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, regional director of Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, lauded the Bacolod City Police Office for their swift and decisive action.

“Neutralizing high-value targets plays a crucial role in preventing illegal drugs from infiltrating communities, especially during major public events such as MassKara Festival,” he said. | GB
