The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI said it already released P1,856,652-worth of food and nonfood items in its response operations for families affected by the Mt. Kanlaon eruption in Negros Island.
The DSWD6 said that, as of 2 p.m. June 8, it distributed assistance to 1,650 affected families composed of 5,514 individuals.
Most of the affected families, numbering to 1,239 composed of 4,293 individuals, are from La Castellana in Negros Occidental.
As of reporting time, 1,177 families, or 4,131 individuals, remain inside evacuation centers, all in La Castellana, the DSWD6 said.
There are also 50 displaced families, or 129 individuals, who opted to seek shelter with their relatives and friends.
Residents of Barangay Linuthangan in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, meanwhile, received family food packs from the DSWD7 June 9.
Linuthangan is among the five barangays of the city affected by the Mt. Kanlaon eruption June 3.
The agency, in collaboration with trained personnel from the Canlaon City local government unit, also provided support for children affected by the volcano eruption by organizing child-friendly space activities and distributing donated toys June 8.
Of these children, 24 are from Macario Española Memorial School while 40 are from Jose B. Cardenas Memorial School. ||
