The Provincial African Swine Fever Task Force (ASF-TF) of Negros Occidental said that 4,051.74 kilograms of assorted pork meat products, worth about P1.2 million, have been seized in various ASF checkpoints in the airport and seaports of the province, from January to Oct. 15.
This include the P9,628 in pork meat products confiscated during the Oct. 9 to 15 operations of the ASF-TF.
The confiscated products were mostly pork chicharon and processed foods from Metro Manila and other provinces in Luzon that were hand-carried or placed in the check-in baggage of passengers at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.
From Oct. 9 to 15, the quarantine team also inspected 1,648 incoming vehicles and refrigerated container vans at the different ports of entry to the province. Products allowed to enter Negros Occidental were properly inspected and found to have complete documents.
A total of 2,991 hogs were also shipped out of the province to different destinations in Luzon and Visayas during the same period, while 55 livestock transport carriers were disinfected at the ports of entry. — MML
