The provincial government of Negros Occidental recognized outstanding Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials and youth leaders for their dedication to public service, during the SK Awards Day Oct. 3, on the theme, “Kabataang Negrense: A Celebration of Service and Excellence”.

The event, held in collaboration with the Negros Occidental SK Federation and the Department of the Interior and Local Government, highlighted the significant contributions of young leaders in advancing youth development and community engagement in the province.

In his message, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson stressed that serving as an SK member is both a privilege and a responsibility that demands time, dedication, and sacrifice.

“It takes a brave soul to choose this charge,” Lacson said in a Capitol press release, reminding young leaders to always keep in mind the purpose and vision behind the creation of the SK.

He congratulated the awardees for their accomplishments and encouraged them to view the recognition as a reminder of their crucial role in society.

The governor also commended Provincial SK Federation president, Board Member Mayvelyn Madrid, for her continuing efforts to promote the welfare and development of the Negrense youth.

“The future of our province and our nation lies in your dedication not just to lead, but most importantly, to serve,” Lacson said.

He said that the provincial government will continue to create an enabling environment for meaningful youth engagement and empower young Negrenses to become responsible, capable, and service-oriented leaders.

The SK Awards Day 2026 served as a platform to recognize excellence in youth leadership while reinforcing the shared commitment of the province, SK Federation, and DILG to strengthening youth participation in governance and community development.

The event was also attended by Provincial Board Members Rita Gatuslao and Richard Sablan, Liga ng mga Barangay-Negros Occidental president; and DILG-NIR assistant regional director and concurrent DILG Negros Occidental director Teodora Sumagaysay, among others. ||
