Outstanding Bacolodnons, bizmen feted at 86th Charter anniversary

Bacolod City celebrated its 86th Charter anniversary June 18, a special nonworking holiday, highlighted by a grand parade in the morning and the recognition of exemplary Bacolodnons and top taxpayers in the individual and corporate categories this evening.

Among the awardees are Engr. Julio Cayetano Belleza of the City Engineer’s Office and Dr. Edwin Mirafor, medical officer IV at the City Health Office as outstanding employees in the supervisory level.

For the nonsupervisory, the awardees are Marissa Britania, assistant statistician at the Department of Social Services and Development, and Leonardo Biantan, a construction and maintenance capataz, the city said.

The “Ang Banwahanon” awardees are Nestor Evaristo of Aboy’s Restaurant, Bryant Lao of the Bacolod Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade, and businesswoman Marigold Ponce-Tangco.

For the “Be The Change Award”, the recipients are Fairly Pretta, Dr. Edwin Segovia, and the Sagup Negros for its food waste mitigation initiative.

The Mayor’s Citation Award, meanwhile, was received by the Amado B. Parreno Agricultural Corp., Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade, Bureau of Fire Protection-Bacolod, Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., Philippine Red Cross Negros Occidental-Bacolod City, Manila Water Company Inc., Councilor Cindy Rojas, and the Rotary Club of Bacolod.

The city government also recognized Jose Antonio Alonte Jr., Stephanie Chiu, Atty. Roseller Maalat, Catherine Ong, and David Chiu as top real property taxpayers in the individual category.

The top business taxpayers in the individual category are Jerry Sy of Silver Dragon Construction Lumber & Glass Supply, Wilkinson Ong – Wilkinson Construction, Alvin Yu – Bacolod Triumph Hardware, Peggy Kl Coo – KLC Enterprises, and Alvin Chua of AA Electrical Supply.

The top real property taxpayers in the corporate category are Coca cola Beverages Philippines Inc., Capital Central Commercial Ventures Corp., SM Prime Holdings Inc., Philippine Airlines, and Megaworld Corporation.

Corporate top business taxpayers, on the other hand, are Nestle Philippines Inc., Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines Inc., A O B Corporation, SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SM City Bacolod), and Mainstream Business Inc. (SM Bacolod Department Store).

The celebration, on the theme “Pagsaulog sang Pagbag-o para sa mas Masanyug nga Asenso sang Bacolod”, kicked off with a Charter Day parade participated in by 425 city and barangay employees and residents, 230 vehicles, and 134 motorcycles. The starting points were in barangays Bata, Alangilan, Mansilingan, and Sum-ag, and eventually converging at the Bacolod Government Center grounds for a program.

“Let us embrace the past and its lessons, so we can understand with openness and humility the present, and we shall be able to chart a better tomorrow,” Mayor Alfredo Benitez said. “The future’s shining promise awaits those who believe and those who will take the risk to make the change!”/CGC
