The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) is preparing a recovery plan to help farmers in local government units of Negros Occidental affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.

Provincial Agriculturist Dina Genzola, however, said they could not start implementing it due to the continuing unrest of the volcano.

Genzola added that OPA and other farmers’ organizations not affected by the eruption have extended help to farmers, especially those staying at the evacuation centers in La Castellana, by giving them more than 200 sacks of rice.

She added that the OPA is also helping the affected farmers by marketing their products at the Provincial Capitol and even in social media.

Damage to crops and fisheries in the municipality of La Castellana and the cities of Bago and La Carlota in Negros Occidental has reached P129.758 million. | GB
