The Police Regional Office 6 said the New Year celebration in Western Visayas was generally peaceful, with no major incidents directly related to the festivity noted.
The PRO6 said Jan. 2 that crime incidents from Dec. 16, 2024 to Jan. 1, 2025 stood at 907, or 28.24 percent lower compared to the same period in 2023 with 1,264.
There were also 54 incidents under the eight focus crimes, from 176 cases the previous year, or a decrease of 69.32 percent, the PRO6 said in a statement. The eight focus crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of vehicles, and of motorcycles.
Brig. General Jack Wanky, Western Visayas police director, lauded all personnel across the region, including cops in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, for their commitment and dedication in delivering excellent public service.
“We sincerely recognize all the stakeholders for their invaluable contribution in making the holiday season joyful and peaceful,” Wanky said.
“As we face the new year, it is with optimism that we can perform better as we are forging a stronger partnership and collaboration in all our peace and order, and public safety endeavors,” he added.
He assured the public that the police will relentlessly go after all forms of criminality, and will ensure that those engaging in illegal activities will be dealt with accordingly. ||
