The Department of Labor and Employment reminds the public that Nov. 27, Monday, has been declared a regular holiday for the Bonifacio Day observance, and private sector employees who would report to work on that day are entitled to a double pay.

DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, in Labor Advisory No. 24-2023, said that if the employee does not work, the employer shall pay 100 percent of the employee’s wage for that day.

For work done during the regular holiday, the employer shall pay a total of 200 percent of the employee’s wage for that day for the first eight hours. For work done in excess of eight hours, the employee should be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate.

Laguesma said that for work done during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee’s rest day, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent, or basic wage x 200 percent x 130 percent.

For work done in excess of eight hours during a regular holiday that also falls on the employee’s rest day, the employee shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on said day, or computed as hourly rate of the basic wage x 200 percent x 130 percent x 130 percent x number of hours worked.

Under Republic Act 9492, or the Act Rationalizing the Celebration of National Holidays in the Philippines, some regular holidays were adjusted to allow Filipinos to enjoy long weekends, such that those that fall on a midweek are moved to the nearest weekend. | CGC
