The Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) in Dumaguete City marked its 79th founding anniversary, with Governor Chaco Sagarbarria leading hospital and government officials and guests in the celebration recently.
The celebration served not only as a commemoration of the hospital’s history, but also as an opportunity to assess ongoing healthcare initiatives in Negros Oriental.
Accompanied by provincial health officer, Dr. Liland Estacion, NOPH chief Dr. Marc Llosa, and administrative officer Mark Arbolado, among others, Sagarbarria toured essential facilities, including the blood bank, and inspected the ongoing construction of a new dialysis building.
These developments reflect Sagarbarria’s aim to bolster healthcare interventions in Negros Oriental, and address the critical needs of the community, a Capitol press release said July 26.
The establishment of a dedicated dialysis center is particularly noteworthy, given the increasing prevalence of kidney disease in the region. Such infrastructure improvement is vital in ensuring that residents have access to necessary medical treatments without needing to travel long distances, it added.
The hospital became a full-fledged Level 2 facility last year.
“The goal is not just level II, we have to go as high as possible,” the governor had said. “This elevated Level 2 status isn’t merely a badge of honor. The Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital now stands qualified to embrace and provide a diverse array of specialized medical domains, enriching the spectrum of care it bestows upon its patients.” ||
