NOCPPO tops gun ban enforcement

Forty-six Comelec gun ban violators were accounted for by the police in Western Visayas, and their arrest also yielded 35 firearms and 11 deadly weapons, as Jan.  29, the Police Region Office 6 said.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office has the most number of arrested gun ban violators at 18, with 14 guns and five deadly weapons recovered.

Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, PRO 6 spokesperson, also reported that the Iloilo Police Provincial Office netted six gun ban violators, three each for the Bacolod City Police Office, Antique, and Aklan Police Provincial Offices, Iloilo City Police Office – 2, and one each for the Capiz and Guimaras PPOs, where 21 guns and six deadly weapons were recovered.

P/Lt. Abegael Donasco, spokesperson of the NOCPPO, also said that 68 unlicensed firearms were surrendered to various city and municipal police stations in the province.

Donasco said the recent surrender of assorted firearms boosted their campaign against loose guns, with the onset of the election campaign period, which will start on Feb. 8 for national candidates. — GB
