A total of 1,877 wanted persons have been accounted for by the police in Negros Occidental in the first six months of 2024.

Of the arrested suspects, 281 are categorized as most wanted persons (MWPs) while 1,822, as other wanted persons (OWPs), a report of the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) said.

MWPs are those facing heinous cases while OWPs are involved in minor cases, according to the Philippine National Police.

For the same period, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) topped the campaign against wanted persons, with the arrest of 1,641 fugitives, including the 138 categorized as MWPs.

The Bacolod City Police Office accounted for 236 wanted persons, including 45 categorized as MWPs, the report added.

All over Western Visayas, the PRO-6 reported to have accounted for 3,004 wanted persons, of whom 512 were categorized as MWPs.

More than 50 percent of the PRO-6 accomplishments in the campaign against wanted persons were credited to the NOCPPO.

In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Jack Wanky, police regional director of Western Visayas, lauded the efforts of all police commanders for their persistent endeavor and commitment demonstrated in the campaign against wanted persons.

“It is our goal to bring these fugitives to justice,” Wanky said. | GB
