Classes at all levels, both public and private, have been suspended today, Nov. 24, in Bacolod and several towns and cities in Negros Occidental due to the low pressure area (LPA) that has developed within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Classes are also suspended in the cities of Victorias, Silay, San Carlos, La Carlota, and Himamaylan, as well as in the towns of E.B. Magalona, Moises Padilla, La Castellana, and Hinigaran.
Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya, in suspending the face-to-face classes, said that an orange heavy rainfall warning has been issued by the DOST-PAGASA for Bacolod City.
He encouraged schools to shift to modular distance learning performance tasks and projects to ensure that learning competencies are met.
“The city remains fully prepared to respond and extend assistance in case of any emergency,” Gasataya said.
In Victorias, the suspension is until tomorrow, Nov. 25, but only for kindergarten to Grade 12, and the Alternative Learning system (ALS).
The weather bureau said that, as of 8 p.m. Nov. 23, the LPA being monitored off Surigao del Sur has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. | CGC
