The IPM-Construction Development Corporation is planning to meet with officials of the 61 barangays of Bacolod City this week to discuss the plan to shift the collection of garbage from day to night, to reduce traffic problem and do away with seeing trucks overflowing with garbage in major streets of the City.
IPM Construction consultant Horace Yap said they are preparing the schedule of routes to be presented to the barangay officials since it will need their approval. The proposed plan includes the window time for throwing garbage from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and its actual collection at 9.p.m.
Yap said that, currently, they have 72 trucks but only 60 units are operational, compared to 35 to 40 units when they started in 2016. The rest of their trucks are damaged or being repaired, he said.
Bacolod City has an average daily volume of garbage of 1,436.13 cubic meters, or an increase of 40 percent, compared to 2016.
The IPM-CDC is also planning to construct a new sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa, Bacolod, at no cost to the city, this year. Yap said they are now in the process of acquiring a 20-hectare property next to the existing landfill facility of the city that is expected to be full by December. They are negotiating with the city government to implement the project under a Public-Private Partnership to hasten its realization. — MML
