A lineman of Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power), who fell from a tree while working to restore electricity amid a weather disturbance in Bacolod City on Sept. 15, died in a hospital last night.

Jessie James Torremocha, 34, who fell into a coma, was confined at the intensive care unit of Metro Bacolod Hospital.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of one of our valued linemen,” Negros Power said in a statement.

Torremocha, a resident of Davao City, is a crew of the power firm’s contractor Carmel Light Manpower assigned in vegetation clearing.

On Sunday afternoon, he was dispatched in the area of Circumferential Road, Barangay Villamonte to clear the trees that crossed the power lines and caused brownouts.

While he was on top of a tree about 30 meters high, he fell when he was about to attach his harness to the next branch.

Negros Power described Torremocha as “a dedicated and skilled lineman who exemplified the commitment and courage of their entire team”.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We are eternally grateful for his service and dedication,” it added.

Negros Power also asked for prayers “as we grieve the loss of our colleague”.  | GB
