Negros Or. Army chief promoted

Brig. Gen. Leonardo Peña, commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade in Negros Oriental, has been designated as the new assistant division commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division.

The successor of Peña in the 302nd IB is yet to be named by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Lt. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, AFP Visayas Command chief, said yesterday that Peña will remain in Negros Oriental for the Joint Task Force Negros, pending the designation of his successor.

JTF Negros was tasked to help in the restoration of peace and order in Negros Oriental, following the assassination of Gov. Roel Degamo in his residential compound in Pamplona town March 4, which also claimed eight other lives and injured more than a dozen.

The 302nd IB supervises the 11th, 15th, and 47th infantry battalions in southern Negros./GB
