Gwendolyne Fourniol, 21, of Negros Occidental, bested 35 other candidates and was crowned Miss World Philippines 2022 during the pageant finals held at the Mall of Asia Arena, that started at around 8 p.m. June 5 and ended past 1 o’clock this morning, June 6.
Along with the crown, Gwen received P500,000 in cash, and the titles of Miss Philippine Airlines, Miss Megaworld, and Miss Blue Water Spa. She succeeded Tracy Maureen Perez of Cebu City.
Gwen, who will turn 22 on June 11, also won the Best in Evening Gown, Miss Beach Beauty, Miss Silka, and Miss Love Your Skin special awards.
She is a Filipino-French model. She grew up in France, but made the Philippines her home when she was 18 years old. Her dad is European and her mom is from Negros Occidental.
When Gwen first competed in the Miss World Philippines competition in 2021, she represented Himamaylan City, and landed in the Top 15.
Himamaylan Mayor Raymund Tongson congratulated the first-ever Miss World Philippines winner from Negros Occidental.
“You truly deserve this win, Gwen! May your hard work and commitment during your entire Miss World journey continue to inspire people. You have represented our beloved City, our province and all Negrosanons well. Basta Himamaylanon, gwapahon!” Tongson posted on his Facebook page.
Gwen said she hopes that with the crown, she can empower more people through education, adding that “education is the greatest weapon against poverty”.
Meanwhile, Alison Black of Las Piñas City was crowned Miss Supranational Philippines 2022, Miss Eco Philippines 2022 – Ashley Montenegro of Makati City, Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2022 – Ingrid Santamaria of Parañaque City, Miss Eco Teen Philippines 2022 – Beatriz McLelland of Aklan, Miss World Philippines Tourism 2022/1st Princess – Justine Felizarta of Marikina City, and Miss World Philippines Charity 2022/2nd Princess – Cassandra Chan of San Juan City./NND
