The Office of Civil Defense-Western Visayas on Friday, March 22, conferred the Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence 2023 on the provincial government of Negros Occidental and eight other local government units during the awarding rites held at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City.
Ma. Aletha Nogra, chief of OCD-6 Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Division, led the conferment of awards to the provincial government led by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, and representatives of the highly-urbanized Bacolod City, the municipalities of E.B. Magalona and Manapla, as well as the cities of Victorias, La Carlota, San Carlos, Silay and Talisay.
The LGU awardees, as adjudged by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, generally adhere to the standards for the establishment and functionality of the City and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices as prescribed in the DRRM Act of 2010.
Lacson said that the award is an affirmation that the LGUs are on the right track, and at the same time a continuous call to action for the betterment of the LGUs’ disaster response and resilience.
“By remaining committed to staying informed and adhering to science-based systems, technological tools and opportunities, we can effectively address disaster risk reduction, including the protection and safety of our responders,” he added. ||
