The provincial government of Negros Occidental said it needs to vaccinate 807,072 residents to reach the protected population level, or herd immunity, against the coronavirus disease.
As of Feb. 12, the Provincial Health Office said 61.54 percent, or 1,291,349 of the 2,098,421 target population, received at least the first dose of anti-COVID vaccines.
It added that 55 percent or 1,154,177 residents were fully vaccinated.
The eight local government units that achieved more than 70 percent of their target population include La Carlota City at 83.46%, Cadiz 74.94%, Sagay City 72.05%, EB Magalona 71.95%, San Enrique 71.94%, Murcia 71.66%, Talisay City 70.70%, and Pulupandan at 70.63%.
LGUs that logged below 50% of target for vaccination are Toboso 40.80%, Calatrava 42.13%, San Carlos City 46.70%, Manapla 48.72%; Cauayan 49.07%, and Moises Padilla 49.50%.
PHO officer, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, said these LGUs need to step up their vaccination activities, adding that his office is willing to augment their manpower to improve their inoculation output. — MML
