The National Democratic Front-Negros strongly denounced the appointment of Major Gen. Debold Sinas as the new Philippine National Police chief.
NDF-Negros spokesperson Ka Bayani Obrero said Negrenses will always remember Sinas, then regional police director of Region 7, as a gross human rights violator.
Obrero, in a statement, recalled that Sinas was behind in the implementation of Oplan Sauron 1 and 2 in Negros Oriental that claimed the lives of 21 individuals.
The Oplan also paved the way for the conduct of illegal search and arrest of persons on fabricated charges, two years ago.
“Debold Sinas leaves a trail of destruction wherever he goes”, Obrero claimed.
Appointing him as new PNP chief is adding salt to the injured families and kin of victims, he said, adding that the cries for justice and accountability will remain unanswered under the Duterte regime.
Sinas, the National Capital Region Police Office head prior to his appointment, had justified the series of operations as legitimate, saying that they were covered with search warrants.
The 14 persons killed during operations resisted arrest, he said.
They were also members of the New People’s Army, he added.
Sinas disputed claims that it was massacre.
As NCRPO director, Obrero said Sinas made headlines as the “mananita general”, who violated quarantine protocols.
Instead of being persecuted, Sinas walked away scot-free despite public outrage, he added.
He also accused Sinas of using “iron fist” to quarantine violators making the lives of Metro Manila residents even harder.
