Regional Task Force (RTF) Kanlaon head Raul Fernandez has urged managers of evacuation centers to account the internally displaced persons under their respective supervisions as he ordered the tightening of border controls within the six-kilometer extended danger zone of Kanlaon Volcano.

Effective May 28, the RTF Kanlaon suspended anew the residents’ entry into the extended danger zone during the 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. window period to carry out farming and other essential activities due to the increasing activity of the volcano.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported on Tuesday (May 27) the occurrence of 22 volcanic quakes and sulfur dioxide emission of 947 tons, which may indicate a plugging at the volcano conduit and may result in pressure build-up that could lead to an eruptive activity.

Fernandez said he instructed all those manning the border control checkpoints in barangays  Biak-na-Bato, Cabagna-an and Mansalanao in La Castellana; Barangays Ara-al and Yubo in La Carlota City; and  Barangay Ilijan in Bago City, all in Negros Occidental; and Canlaon City, Negros Oriental to ensure that no one should enter the danger zone.

“There should be no human activity within the six-kilometer extended permanent danger zone,” he added. | GB
