The Regional Inter-Agency Task Force in Western Visayas approved the requests of four more local government units in Negros Occidental for a moratorium in accepting locally stranded individuals in their areas later this month.
This developed as the provincial government of Negros Occidental said it is bracing for an increase in the number of LSIs and returning overseas workers, who will come home to spend the holidays with their families.
The RIATF resolution, signed by its chairperson, Juan Jovian Ingeniero, director of Department of the Interior and Local Government Region 6, dated Dec. 1, approved the requests of the cities of Victorias and Himamaylan, and the towns of Cauayan and Calatrava to suspend the inbound travel of LSIs to the localities.
Himamaylan, Victorias, and Calatrava will stop accepting LSIs starting Dec. 21 until Jan. 3, while Cauayan will implement the moratorium from Dec. 20 to Jan 3.
The moratorium aims to give LGUs time to prepare their quarantine facilities, and for frontliners to rest and recuperate.
The RIATF earlier approved the suspension in the arrival of LSIs to Pontevedra, from Dec. 22 to Jan. 5, for similar reasons. – GB
