Two persons drowned in Himamaylan City and neighboring Binalbagan town in Negros Occidental on Jan. 19, police reports showed.
A nine-year old boy was trying to retrieve a ball when he slipped and fell into a river in Barangay Tooy, Himamaylan City.
Almost an hour later, the boy’s body was recovered by members of the city rescue team.
He was declared dead at the district hospital, the police said, ruling out any foul play in the death of the minor.
A 36-year-old laborer drowned at Purok Baybay in Barangay San Juan, Binalbagan.
His body was recovered along the river by response teams the next day.
The family of the victim believes the drowning incident was purely accidental, the police said. | GB
