United Negros Alliance chairman and Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon III did not
join his partymates, who filed their Certificate of Candidacy today at the COMELEC, as the Marañon family marked the first death anniversary of former Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr..
Instead, Mayor Marañon said he will file his COC for congressman of the second district on October 6. He will step down as mayor of Sagay on June 2022 after serving for three terms.
He added that Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa will run for mayor of Sagay with incumbent congressman Rafael Cueva as vice mayor. Cueva will leave the House of Representatives next year, also after completing his three terms.
Marañon was sworn in as chairman of UNegA last year, replacing his father, the late governor. He was second district congressman from 2004 to 2013 and mayor of Sagay since 2013.
Completing the slate of the Javelosa-Cueva tandem in Sagay are seven councilors, who are up for re-election, and three newcomers, Marañon said.
Vying for re-election as Sagay city councilor are Arthur Christopher Marañon, Rondel Delos Reyes, Roldan Gamao, Concepcion Javellana, Felisa dela Cruz, Perfecto Maranon and Miller Serondo.
The three new members are Christopher Javelosa, Lura Javelosa and Sherwin Sy.
Together with Marañon, the group will also file their COC on October 6
