A 51-year-old sugarcane worker was hacked to death by a drinking buddy during an altercation in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia, Negros Occidental, July 5.
The Murcia Municipal Police Station (MPS) said that alias “Elpedio”, of Purok La Roca in the barangay, and his neighbor, “Joemar”, 41, a truck driver, were having a drinking session inside the former’s house at around 10:45 p.m. when a heated argument ensued between them.
“Joemar” drew a bolo and repeatedly hacked the victim, inflicting fatal wounds on various parts of his body, the police said.
MPS acting chief, P/Capt. Honey Labaro, said “Elpedio” was rushed to the Murcia Rural Health Unit but was pronounced dead by an attending physician.
The suspect, arrested in a hot-pursuit operation, is now detained at the police station and facing charges for homicide.
A 30-inch bolo with a scabbard was recovered at the crime scene, the police added. | TMD
