The district office of the Land Transportation Office along the La Castellana-La Carlota Highway will soon serve the 4th District and neighboring areas in Negros Occidental.
The one-storey LTO building, worth P9 million, was donated by the La Carlota City government, and Mayor Rex Jalando-on said it will be open to the public by end of this month.
It will serve residents of Bago City, La Carlota City, San Enrique, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, and Valladolid, and will also cater to the needs of nearby municipalities, especially La Castellana and Moises Padilla in the 5th District.
Jalando-on and 4th District Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer, along with LTO officials, attended the blessing ceremony March 1. Ferrer was instrumental in the establishment of the LTO District Office in La Carlota City, by authoring a bill in the House of Representatives that eventually became Republic Act No. 118521.
Aside from the LTO, Fr. John Rey Maquilan also led the blessing for the neighboring permanent evacuation center of the city.
The construction of the evacuation center, worth P50 million, was funded by the Office of Ferrer.
Others in attendance were Vice Mayor David Baga, councilors Elmar Aries, January Abad, Stephen Simbit, Akoy Sia, Jojo Jalandoni, Baste Benedicto, and Annabelle Bermudo, Carwater general manager Homer Bermudo, punong barangays, LTO assistant regional director Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan and area heads, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management head, Dr. Junnie Torrefranca, and City Engineer Albert Lorico, among others. ||
