The Land Transportation Office said it has issued show cause order (SCO) against 1,046 dealers in 2024 for their failure to register newly-bought motor vehicles within the prescribed time period.

LTO chief, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, said the agency’s Citizen’s Charter mandates the registration of newly-bought motor vehicles to be registered within seven days after the transaction is completed in motor vehicle dealerships.

Of the 1,046 SCOs issued, Mendoza said 21 of them were already fined after being found negligent during the investigation.

He said 14 of the motor vehicle dealers were fined with P20,000; two were fined with P30,000; while five were fined with P100,000.

A total of 80 were already submitted for resolution while the rest are still under investigation.

“Unfortunately, there were some motor vehicle dealers which did not comply at the expense of their clients despite our repeated reminders of the need to strictly follow the rule,” Mendoza said in a statement recently. “Yung matindi dito ay yung ibang car dealers, sa kagustuhang magpalusot sa mga kliyente nila, ay ang LTO ang itinuturong may kasalanan. Hindi ito tama kaya we encourage our clients to file a complaint before us.”

The intensified monitoring of the compliance of motor vehicle dealers is part of the instruction of DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista to make all the transactions under the Department fast and comfortable.

Mendoza said he instructed concerned offices to expedite the resolution of all cases involving violations of the registration of newly-bought motor vehicles. ||
