Private vehicle owners with plate numbers ending 1 and 2 will have more time to renew their registration with the Land Transportation Office.

Reuben Tampos, LTO Bacolod registration office head, said those with plates ending in number 1 supposedly only have until Jan. 31 for renewal, but they are given extension until Feb. 15 without penalty.

Tampos added that those with plates ending in 2, are given until March 8 instead of Feb. 28.

He said the extension will give motorists more time to process their registration since their office limits the number of clients for the day to follow the health protocols implemented by the National Inter-Agency Task Force.

LTO allows walk-in clients for the day but priority is given to those who have earlier booked online.

A 50 percent penalty will be imposed on vehicle owners who fail to meet the extended registration dates.

Tampos said there is an increase in the registration fee this year depending on the type of vehicles and the year model.

He noted that due to the pandemic, renewal of registration last year dropped by 15 percent.

Tampos said vehicle owners were hesitant to go out to renew because the LTO Bacolod Office was also closed several times because of COVID-19 positive clients, who made transactions with the agency. – MML
