Love Negros and United Negros Alliance (UNegA) continue to hold discussions and consultations on the possibility of fielding a common candidate for governor of Negros Occidental in the 2028 elections.
This was shared by Deputy Speaker Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, representative of the Lone District of Bacolod City and stalwart of Love Negros, on the sidelines of the 40th Negros Trade Fair at SM Aura in Taguig City on Sept. 26.
“I believe so,” Benitez said when asked if talks are happening.
He confirmed that consultations are being conducted as well.
Benitez said the two political groups should be given time to arrive at a decision on their possible political arrangement for the 2028 elections.
“Let us give it time. Maabot gid na ang tiyempo (Time will come) that a decision has to be made,” he added.
The possible common candidacy comes amid discussions within Negros Occidental political circles on a unified gubernatorial ticket involving the two groups.
The names of Benitez’s son, Negros Occidental Third District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez, and Second District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III have been floated as possible candidates for governor in 2028.
Both lawmakers, however, have yet to publicly confirm their plans to seek the gubernatorial post. | GPB
