Mayor Alme Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan, who is on her third and last term as mayor of La Castellana, yesterday said that she is open to run for vice governor in 2025, if chosen by her party, the United Negros Alliance (UNegA).

“We have officers, so we can’t just push ourselves,” she said, but noted that “everyone of us is willing to go up or down in positions in public service.”

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, who is the UNegA president, confirmed earlier that he will run for congressman of the fourth district to succeed his wife, Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer, who will complete her nine-year term in 2025.

Before he became vice governor, Ferrer served as congressman of the fourth district – from 2007 to 2016.

Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., UNegA secretary-general, said earlier that three UNEgA incumbent officials are included in the short list for vice governor.

Mangilimutan said that all UNegA members are strong and capable candidates for any elective position.

“I think in God’s perfect time, if it is for me, let’s try it,” the mayor said.

For now, Mangilimutan said she will focus on finishing her landmark projects such as the completion of the municipal hospital and college, which are expected to open next year, and the sanitary landfill.

She noted that she wants her successor to be in her political line-up to ensure the continuity of her programs and priorities for La Castellana. | GB
