The Negros Island Region (NIR) Police Office headquarters is being considered to be established inside the 500-hectare property of Central Philippines State University (CPSU) in Barangay Tagucon, Kabankalan City.
On Monday, Sept. 2, Mayor Benjie Miranda accompanied PBrig. Gen. Jack Wanky, police regional director of Western Visayas, during the site inspection of the CPSU property.
Miranda said that the school management is donating 10 to 20 hectares to the police regional headquarters should they consider to choose the area.
He recalled that CPSU has allocated 400 hectares for the NIR regional centers while 100 hectares will be earmarked for families to be affected by the establishment of government offices.
The setting up of police regional office and other government centers would benefit CPSU graduates in terms of employment, aside from bringing in services to Kabankalan City, Miranda said.
Both the Police Regional Offices 6 (Western Visayas) and 7 (Central Visayas) have started the preparations for transition to the NIR.
The inventory of PRO-7 revealed that there are about 1,800 police personnel assigned in Negros Oriental while Siquijor has 420.
About 25 percent of the Police Regional Office 6 personnel, which is about 3,250 will also be covered by the transfer of service from Western Visayas to NIR. | GB
