The IPM Construction and Development Corp. has billed the Bacolod City government P16 million for the 12,568 tons of garbage collected, hauled, and disposed of in December, an official of the Department of Public Services (DPS) said Jan. 15.

DPS officer-in-charge Ma. Fe Trespuentes said the volume of garbage collected increased last month, mainly due to the holiday season, adding that, on average, IPM collects 12,000 tons per month.

She gave IPM a rating of 8.5, with 10 being the highest, based on the performance and compliance of the garbage hauler of its eight-month contract with the city government, which ended Dec. 31.

Trespuentes noted that IPM has also installed 14 Materials Recovery Facilities, and 20 garbage collection bins in various barangays of Bacolod.

The company’s contract to collect and dispose of garbage has been extended until end of this month, while it will also continue to manage and operate the sanitary landfill in Brgy. Felisa until April 30 this year.

In both contract extensions, Mayor Alfredo Benitez took note of a provision which states that the deal “is renewable or can be extended for not more than four months at the option solely of the city government, as represented by the chief executive”, if “still necessary and until a new bidding is successfully completed”. | CGC
