571 Negrense workers receive aid from DOLE

The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 6, through its Negros Occidental Field Office, released P2,681,164 in wages, personal protective equipment, and GSIS personal accident insurance of 571 workers under the TUPAD or Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers.

The DOLE said Sept. 21 that in a series of payout activities from Sept. 10 to 15, P1,058,584 was disbursed to 150 workers from Barangay 36 in Bacolod City, and 64 from Barangay Poblacion 1 in Ilog, Negros Occidental.

In Kabankalan City, 53 beneficiaries in Barangay Bantayan and 35 in Barangay Suay also benefitted from the P383,328 TUPAD assistance.

It added that P316,550 and P304,150 were released to 50 marginalized workers from Barangay Pandan, Pontevedra, and 77 beneficiaries from Barangay Palampas, San Carlos City, respectively.

About P304,920 was distributed to 70 beneficiaries from Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, 35 informal workers in Barangay Nabali-an, and 37 in Barangay Carabalan, both in Himamaylan City, were also provided with a P313, 632 budget.

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days and a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

DOLE OIC regional director, Atty. Sixto Rodriguez Jr., is pushing for a fast and immediate assistance for the beneficiaries, considering the financial hardships of poor families amid the COVID crisis.

He led the regional office in reaching out to the marginalized workers in the most remote areas of Western Visayas. ||
