The Sangguniang Panlungsod on Wednesday, May 3, asked the Bacolod City Police Office, through its acting director, Col. Noel Aliño, to intensify the campaign against the theft of electronics and telecommunications cable wires in the city.
“It has come to the attention of the members of the SP that there were several incidents involving theft or robbery of electronics/telecommunication wires and cables committed during the wee hours of the morning,” the resolution, authored by Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, and approved by the sanggunian, May 3, said.
The theft of wires and cables causes inconvenience on the part of telecommunication consumers and damages for consumers and service providers, the resolution said.
“It also results in the disruption of services, may hinder productivity in the city, and may even cause electrocution,” Puentevella, chairperson of the SP Committee on Energy and Public Utilities, stressed.
The city earlier said that on April 14, an approximate 10,000 PLDT internet subscribers experienced loss of internet access from 3 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. due to a reported cable theft in downtown Bacolod.
It added that Mayor Alfredo Benitez, the BCPO, and the telco companies are encouraging everyone to be vigilant in monitoring cases like this, and to immediately report incidents of cable theft to the nearest police station, the Office of the Mayor, or Benitez’s social media platforms./CGC
