Injured cop gets medal, financial aid

A policeman who was injured during a recent buy-bust operation in Kabankalan City, was awarded yesterday with “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting”.

The injured policeman, PSSg Iric Montoyo, received the medal from PCol. Rainier de Chavez, provincial police director, during a ceremony held at Holy Mother of Mercy Hospital in Kabankalan City.

Montoyo was wounded during the successful buy-bust operation at Sitio Magkinigkig, Barangay Tan-awan, Kabankalan City.

The operation resulted in the arrest of high-value drug target, identified only as Alyas “Alvie”, a suspected member of the Bugalon Drug Gang and a top priority on both provincial and city drug watchlists.

The police also arrested during the buy-bust operation a street-level individual suspect identified as Alias “Joseph”, and the recovered an estimated 20 grams of suspected shabu with a market value of P 136,000.

Also seized by the police were a caliber .22 revolver and caliber 45 Glock pistol.

The suspects sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover officer. After the transaction, an armed encounter ensued resulting in the injury of Montoyo.

De Chavez highlighted the importance of the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting” as a symbol of valor for officers who risk their lives in the fight against crime.

He also turned over the financial assistance extended by the Police Regional Office 6 to the injured police officer. | GB
