Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Tuesday (May 7) that incumbent elected officials of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP) in Negros Occidental are supporting his bid for a third and final term.

“I know for a fact that incumbent PDP members are supporting me”, Lacson said, following his recent visit to the third district of Negros Occidental.

On reports of the mass resignation of PDP members in the province, Lacson said he is not privy to the reasons of those involved.

He confirmed receiving information that party members from the third district will resign from PDP.

Those who already resigned were Victorias City Vice Mayor Abelardo Bantug III and nine councilors, following the announcement of lawyer Jesus Hinlo, deputy secretary-general of PDP Visayas, that the party is eyeing to field former Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca against Lacson in the elections next year.

In 2016, about 200 Negros Occidental officials, among them mayors, vice mayors, councilors and some board members joined the PDP, following the election of Rodrigo Duterte as president. | GB
