The Theme of the Christian Emphasis Week of Filamer Christian University in Roxas City from March 3 to 8 was “Imago Dei: Actualizing our Divine Purpose.”

Since ancient times, humanity has wrestled with the following questions: Why are we here? What is your purpose? Why were you created?

In a world where identities are questioned and choices seem limitless, it is easy to feel lost. But the Bible provides a clear and comforting truth: You are created by God, in His own image. Today, let us rediscover who we are through the Word of God.

First, I am created by God.

Isaiah 44:24 says: “God, your Redeemer, who shaped your life in your mother’s womb, says: ‘I am God. I made all that is. With no help from you, I spread out the skies and laid out the earth.’”

Psalm 139:13-16 also declares: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

These verses affirm that we are not accidents. Each of us is intentionally and carefully created by God. From the moment of conception, God shapes us with purpose and love. Since God is our Creator, we can trust that His design – including our gender and identity – is intentional and good.

Second, I am created in the image of God.

Genesis 1:27 states: “So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God, He created them; male and female He created them.”

Since we are made in God’s image, every human life is sacred and must be treated with dignity and respect. Value every person you meet because they, too, are made in God’s image. This should shape how you treat others, even those who are different from you.

Third, I believe that God has created me for a purpose.

Jeremiah 29:11 reassures us: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

This promise was fulfilled when the Israelites returned to their homeland after 70 years (Ezra 1:1-4). Just as God had a plan for Israel’s restoration, He has a plan for your life.

God assured them of His plan and this same assurance applies to us today.

Your life is not random. God has a plan for you – to know Him, serve Him, and reflect His love to the world. Yet, the struggle to live according to God’s will is real. The good news is that we have Jesus Christ.

Trust that God’s purpose for your life is good. Seek God daily and allow Him to direct your steps. | NWI
