The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) Organics International has officially partnered with Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Inc. (NISARD) for the hosting of the 22nd IFOAM Organic World Congress and General Assembly in Negros Occidental next year.
The agreement was signed by IFOAM Organics International Vice President Marco Schluter and NISARD President Edgardo Uychiat, marking a significant step in strengthening international cooperation in organic agriculture and sustainable farming development.
The signing, which was held at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City on Friday, May 29, was witnessed by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Provincial Legal Officer Alberto Nellas Jr., and NISARD trustee Albert Jo.
Scheduled for November 2027, the prestigious global gathering is expected to bring together international leaders, practitioners, researchers, and advocates of organic agriculture from around the world.
The congress will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, policy discussions, and the promotion of sustainable and regenerative farming systems, further positioning Negros Occidental as a key hub for organic agriculture in the Philippines and Asia.
Negros Occidental won the bid to host the 2027 IFOAM Organic World Congress in 2024, besting Brisbane, Australia, with a 128 to 92 voting victory.
The international event, organized by IFOAM-Organics International, is held every three years and brings together thousands of organic farmers and agriculture experts all over the world. ||
