Jealousy triggered a husband to kill his wife, using a hammer, on Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Sitio Lucay 2, Barangay Camingawan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, police said.
The suspect, identified as Saler Laurente, 44, surrendered to a village watchman, several hours after committing the crime, and was immediately endorsed to the Kabankalan City Police Station for detention.
Lt. Col. Mary Rose Salve Pico, Kabankalan City police chief, identified the victim as Delbeth Laurente, 40.
Before the incident, the suspect and his wife reportedly figured in an altercation, while their two children were sleeping inside their house.
Pico said the victim succumbed to injuries, after being hit with a hammer, by the suspect, at about 1 a.m.
Several hours later, Saler gave himself up to the “tanod,” who facilitated his surrender to the police.
Initial police investigation further showed that the suspect had not been eating well in the past several days, and who was reported to have been always drinking liquor.
Saler suspects that his wife is seeing another man, Pico said.
Pico also said that they are now in the process of getting the testimonies of the children of the couple, in preparation for the filing of parricide charges against the suspect. – GB
