Home for the Blind fire damage at P4.3M, 29 families displaced

Some 29 families were displaced by the fire at the compound of Home for the Blind in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City Saturday afternoon.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who visited the affected families at evacuation center in Barangay Mansilingan Gymnasium, assured them of financial assistance.

Benitez was accompanied by Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya, Councilor Jason Villarosa and Mansilingan village chief Franz Tionko.

The mayor said the city’s Department of Social Welfare and Development and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately attended to the needs of the affected families.

They were provided sleeping kits, meals, food packs and assorted goods.

The Bureau of Fire and Protection reported that the fire destroyed three houses and partially damaged two others.

The initial damage was placed at P4.3 million while the origin of the fire is still being determined by investigators. | GB
